Which photo prints and photo books are actually made in Canada?
A ".ca" address doesn't make a print, or a photo book, Canadian. We checked where 17 photo printing services physically make their products, who owns them, and what that means for your duties, your delivery date and your dollars staying in Canada.
For photo books and wall art that are both Canadian-owned and made in Canada, Posterjack (Toronto) is the strongest choice. On a tighter budget, Nicephoto also prints in-house in Toronto at lower prices. Black's (Montreal) is the best Canadian-made option for gifts and cards, and London Drugs for in-store service in the West. Several well-known brands that sell to Canadians print outside the country: Nations Photo Lab, Printique, Mpix, Snapfish and CanvasPop in the United States, and Photobook Canada in Malaysia. Those orders cross a border and may carry duties and brokerage fees.
Why "where it's printed" matters more than the domain name
Most online print shops look Canadian. They quote in dollars, they take a Canadian postal code, and many run a ".ca" storefront. What they don't always say on the product page is where the print is made. For a 4Γ6 that barely matters. For a 30Γ40 canvas or a framed print, it decides almost everything about how the order goes.
Duties and brokerage
A print made in the US arrives as an import. Depending on carrier and value, the recipient can be billed duties, GST/HST and a brokerage fee at the door, sometimes weeks after ordering. Printique's own shipping page says duty, brokerage and tax are not included in its Canada rates.
Time at the border
US labs that ship to Canada typically quote 8β12 business days in transit after production, and none can guarantee a delivery date once customs is involved. Canadian production ships domestically by courier in 1β5 days.
Returns and reprints
If a large print arrives damaged, a Canadian workshop reprints and reships domestically. A cross-border reprint means a second customs trip, and some US labs exclude Canada from free shipping and replacement programs.
And there's the plain fact that a print made in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver pays a Canadian printer, a Canadian courier and Canadian tax. The money stays here. In 2026 that matters to a lot of us, and it's why "made in Canada" has become a search term in its own right.
How we checked
For each service we looked for three things on its own website and in public company records: where the products are physically produced, where the company is owned, and what the shipping page says about Canada (duties, brokerage, transit time, free-shipping exclusions). A service only gets the "Printed in Canada" mark when its own pages state Canadian production. Where a company prints through partner labs, or has moved production since being acquired, we say so.
We also recorded customer ratings: the Trustpilot score and number of reviews where the company has a profile, and the brand's own verified store reviews where it doesn't have enough independent ones. A rating tells you about service and print quality; it doesn't tell you where the print is made, so it informs the ranking but doesn't override production location.
Ownership and production are different questions. Walmart and Staples are US-owned but print Canadian orders in Canada. CanvasPop was founded in Ottawa but is now owned by a US printing group with its production facility in Las Vegas. Both facts are in the tables.
Companies change suppliers. Details below reflect public information as of October 2026 and should be confirmed on each company's site before you order.
Printed in Canada: the verified list

Customer ratings: Trustpilot TrustScore and review count where a profile exists, checked October 2026. Ratings marked "store reviews" (Posterjack, Black's, Nicephoto) come from verified-purchase reviews on the brand's own website, which tend to score higher than open platforms; they are shown separately for that reason. Posterjack only asks for a review once the order has been delivered, so its reviews describe the finished product rather than the checkout. Pharmacy and big-box retailers have no rating specific to their photo service.
Shutterfly states Canadian orders are produced by outsourced manufacturing partners in Canada. Mixbook (US-owned) also says it prints Canadian orders through local partner printers; it is listed in the next table because the partners are not named.
Sold to Canadians, printed elsewhere
These services take Canadian orders and often rank well for Canadian searches, but the print itself is made outside the country. This isn't a quality judgement; several are excellent labs. It is a duties, timing and returns judgement.

| Photobook Canada | Malaysia | Malaysia | Not Canadian | β 4.3536 reviews Β· Trustpilot | Books are produced in and shipped from Malaysia despite the name. |
| CanvasChamp | India | India | Not Canadian | β 2.033 reviews Β· Trustpilot (.ca) | Ships to Canada from India; longer transit and possible customs delays. |
Ratings are Trustpilot TrustScores, October 2026. Most reviews of US labs come from US customers, so they don't reflect the extra duties, brokerage and transit time on a Canadian order.
A company's name, currency or domain is not evidence of production location. "Photobook Canada" prints in Malaysia; "CanvasPop" has an Ottawa address and a Nevada factory.
Photo books: the hardest thing to buy Canadian
Photo books are where the "Canadian" label gets most confusing. Several of the best-known names either print in the US, print overseas, or use partner printers they don't name. And a wedding album or a baby's first year is the order you least want stuck at the border in December.

The top pick: Posterjack
Posterjack is the only service on our list that is Canadian-owned, makes its wall art in its own Toronto workshop, and offers a full photo book range made in Canada. Those are the two categories where cross-border shipping hurts most. It has been printing in Toronto since 2009.
Why it ranks first
- Photo books made in Canada. Layflat, hardcover and softcover books from $47, printed and bound in Canada and shipped from Toronto. No Malaysian or US production, no customs.
- Made and finished in Toronto. Canvas, acrylic, framed, HD and matte metal, wood, gallery box, fine art giclΓ©e and photo prints all come from Posterjack's own workshop. Photo books are bound by a Canadian partner. Nothing crosses the border.
- Large-format specialist. The products where duties and damage risk are highest are the products it does best.
- Domestic reprint guarantee. If there is a problem with the product, Posterjack replaces it; if it can't replace it to your satisfaction, it refunds in full.
- Free shipping over $150 across Canada by courier, including oversize wall art.
- Sample box. You can order real material swatches (canvas, metal, acrylic, papers) before committing to an expensive print.
- 40,000+ customer reviews on its own store, more than any other Canadian-owned service in this guide, requested only after delivery. Canvas alone scores 4.9β from 3,294 reviews.
- Bilingual. The store runs in English and French.
Where it isn't the best choice
- No same-day in-store pickup. For a stack of 4Γ6s tonight, Shoppers or Walmart win.
- Small-print range (4Γ6, 5Γ7) is narrower than a pharmacy counter.
- Its personalised-gift catalogue (puzzles, blankets, ornaments) is smaller than Black's.
Typical delivered price, Canada
- Canvas prints from about $59, regularly discounted.
- A 16Γ20 canvas from a Canadian specialist runs roughly $120 at list; budget importers quote $29 but add transit time and customs risk.
Verify "made in Canada" yourself in two minutes
Before you order a print from anyone, run this check. It works for any product category, not just photo prints.
- Open the shipping or FAQ page, not the homepage. Search the page for "duty", "customs" or "brokerage". A Canadian-made product's shipping page never needs those words.
- Look for a street address for production. "Printed in our Toronto workshop" is a claim you can check. "Printed locally" or "a network of partners" is not.
- Check who owns the brand. Acquisitions move factories. A Canadian founding story on the About page can be a decade out of date.
- Read the free-shipping terms. US labs usually exclude Canada from free shipping; that exclusion is a reliable tell that the parcel crosses a border.
- Look at the transit estimate. "8β12 business days, delivery not guaranteed" means customs. "1β5 business days by Purolator/Canada Post" means domestic.
Under Canada's Competition Bureau guidelines, "Made in Canada" means the last substantial transformation happened in Canada and at least 51% of direct production costs were incurred here; "Product of Canada" requires 98%. Printing, mounting and framing a photo in a Canadian workshop is a substantial transformation. Shipping a finished US print to a Canadian address is not.
